Swavesey Community Choir ‘FREE’s the Christmas spirit

from Amy Turner-Monk

Swavesey Community Choir are a small community choir who have been singing together for 10 Years. This term we have welcomed our new director. John Mullett and we decided that this year we would do things differently.

  • Take the choir into the community this included performing at Over Day Centre’s Christmas lunch and at The Grange Residential Care Home in Littleport.
This allowed us to bring the Christmas spirit to individuals that would not be able to come to our traditional concert.
  • Free entry for our main concert at St Andrew’s Church, Swavesey, with the added twist of the audience choosing 50% of the carols.

This really put pressure on the director and the choir as we had no idea which of the carols would be chosen. However it was received really well by the audience and helped to create inclusive feeling about the evening.

We were fortunate to have a number of fantastic prices donated for our raffle, which enable us to raise much needed funds which were divided between the church roof fund and choir funds. The amount raised was £322.

Hinchingbrooke Hospital then topped off our festive celebrations by welcoming us to join their 350 staff at their award ceremony. This was a wonderful occasion to be invited to, seeing the hard work of our NHS staff being formally recognised and the staff enjoying the evening was fabulous.

We have thoroughly enjoyed spreading the Christmas spirit this December and look forward to our spring concert ‘Mozart and Musicals’ in April.
